Marie Sklodowska Curie was the first female scientist to win the noble prize, an field dominated by males scientists since its creation. Marie Curie was a Polish French physicist that won the Nobel Prize in Physics for her research of radiation phenomena in 1903, then proceed to won a second noble prize in chemistry for the discovery of polonium and radium. Her discoveries in the fields of physics and chemistry contributed to the advance treatment of cancer today, driving a fundamental change in end of life care allowing everyone to have the best possible quality of life till the end. While her work had profound impacts on science and medicine, but it also came with significant personal cost; due to long term exposure to radioactive materials it affected her health significantly and she died on July 4 1934 from aplastic anemia, a condition associated to radiation exposure. Marie Curie is still considered one of the most important scientists in history not only for her accomplishment and discoveries in new elements, radioactivity, or medicine, but she is also a role model and advocate for women in science where she broke significant barriers in a male dominated field and served as a traiblazer for women in science.
